Why is my palo azul tea not turning blue?

First of all, try to shine a flashlight on the palo azul tea or put it in a place where it can absorb light. Palo azul’s blue color is produced by the phenomenon of fluorescence, which means that the palo azul tea absorbs light (or electromagnetic radiation) and emits an incident radiation of a shorter wavelength.

If this isn’t the case, then perhaps you didn't use enough palo azul for the amount of water that you prepared or you didn't boil it long enough.

Another possibility is that the palo azul you used had a low flavonoid concentration. Flavonoids are natural products which are synthesized by plants to fight off bacteria and radiation. They are also responsible for palo azul’s (and many other plants and animals) fluorescence.
