Does Palo Azul help you lose weight?
In addition to all its health benefits, Palo Azul contains flavonoids, which are natural products found in vegetables, fruits, and plants like Palo Azul.
There’s been literally HUNDREDS of studies that have found a ton of health benefits which are attributed to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-aging, anti-hypertensive, anti-bacterial, anti-mutagenic, anti-viral and anti-cancer properties.
Results from medical studies
One study analyzed 2754 twins and found that the group that consumed the most flavonoids:
- Had less percentage of fat
- Burned more fat in the abdomen
Specifically, the researchers found that the twins with the highest consumption of flavonoid-rich foods (onions, tea, apples, pears, and cocoa) “had a 3-9% lower FMR (fat mass ratio) than that of their co-twins.”
Moreover, the researchers found that the “women who ate a lot of flavonoid-rich foods had a lower percentage of body fat than women who ate less. The amount of abdominal fat also differed significantly between the two groups.”
These are the MOST flavonoid-rich foods: apples, pears, onions, strawberries, blueberries, celery, peppers, and teas such as palo azul
Another study looked at 124,000 people and found that "flavonoids increase energy expenditure, decrease fat absorption and function as anti-inflammatories.
Finally, one study showed that consumption of polyphenols (contained in Palo Azul) "resulted in significant weight loss" and led to "significant improvement in waist circumference, fasting glucose and insulin resistance.”
Tips for losing weight
The MOST important thing to lose weight is to reduce sugar in your diet and exercise (muscular and cardiovascular training). The best way to reduce sugar in your diet is by decreasing the amount of carbohydrates such as bread, rice, pasta, etc. and adding more vegetables and fruits.
It’s also ideal to eliminate processed foods and foods with unhealthy fats (trans fats and most saturated fats). Something that helps a lot is green juices, they satisfy your hunger and are loaded with nutrients, fiber and have very few calories.
The key is simple...You do NOT have to stop eating the foods you like, but you DO have to make some sacrifices. Don't think about it like you’re starting a weight loss diet, think about it like you’re adopting a new healthier lifestyle and losing weight as a result.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing is that YOU can maintain consistency with this new lifestyle. If you need to do cheat meals on the weekends so that you can eat healthier for the rest of the week, it's okay as long as long as you do it moderately. Or if you are like me, and need to eat large portions, try intermittent fasting so you can eat 1 or 2 large meals and the rest of the day you are fasting.
If you find it hard to go to the gym for an hour 5 times a week, then try going 3 times a week or exercise for just 30 minutes instead of an hour. The point is that the ONLY way you're going to lose weight and keep it off is if you have a consistent plan.
Extreme diets work in the short term... but you want to lose weight in the long term, don't you?
That's why you should follow a plan that YOU can consistently maintain.
• Cut down on carbohydrates like bread, rice, pasta, etc
• Add more vegetables and fruits such as broccoli, spinach, asparagus, strawberries and to your diet
• Drink antioxidant teas such as green tea or Palo Azul
• Doing muscle strengthening exercise to gain muscle. This will allow your body to burn expend more energy (which means that you burn more calories) and it will increase your insulin sensitivity (which reduces the amount of sugar that gets stored as fat)
• Drinking green juices to satisfy hunger
• Intermittent fasting
• Have a "cheat meal" once a week to motivate you and achieve consistency
Don't think you're going to start a weight-loss diet, think you're going to adopt a new, healthier lifestyle and consequently lose weight
Do what you have to do to be consistent in your new healthy lifestyle. It's the only way you'll maintain your health in the long run.
